About 3 days ago I rescued a betta from a local petstore. Ever since I've brought him home he refuses to eat! I've tried flakes and pellets and both have been a no go. When I put some food in there he acts really interested but most of the time just spits the food out. Could it be that he is constipated? I've read about using pea's to help that but I'm unsure as to what to do? Perhaps he just wants another food? I've bought 2 different kinds of food so far and he doesnt want either. Cant really afford to continue to buy him food until he picks one he likes. What do you all think? Constipated or picky??:help:

i was going to suggest peas.

Frozen peas ok? Thawed of course..
Do I drop one in there whole or take the skin off?
And do they really like peas??

i had the same problem too a while back:

if peas dont work try fasting for a couple of days as bettas are hunters in the wild, so they can survive for almost 5 days without eating. as jspigs once wisely said, "your betta will not starve herself"
also try frozen bloodworms, frozen brines hrimmp or frozen tubifex/glass worms
make sure they are FROZEN not freeze-dried
from my experience most bettas will eat frozen foods with vigour
good luck!

thank you very much!!!

freeze dried foods should be used as treats rather than a staple for betta diets
they don't have enough nutrients
try brine shrimp
if nothing still works idk what to do sorry
good luck with ur betta tho

and u r very welcome juice

I would honestly give him a little more time to settle in. If he hasn't eaten in a week, start to worry. You could also try some bloodworms.

When my bettas had the same problem, of not eating. I fed them skinned frozen peas. It should do the trick. If not I'd go with the frozen bloodworms.

Yeah that's what I figured, maybe needs more time to adjust. I'll continue to try to have him take some flakes or pellets until I can get to the store to get him some bloodworms. I live a half hour away from our local petstore so he might have to wait for a couple of days.

Thank you all for your advice! I'll keep you all updated
