do you already have the pictus? they will outcompete the rams for food, so if you dont already have them then you may want to leave them out. plus they can get to 6 or 10 inches long.
How about some Oil Catfishes (Tatia perugiae)? I'm just not sure about their compatibility with cichlids (Apistogrammas, Rams and Angels). They are nocturnal and live in the Upper Amazon River, inhabiting the swift-moving waters. They are also quite rare from what I read. They are quite interesting too.
Hope this is something that you might like. I would liked to get them, but they were quite expensive ($20 each) and I was a bit too slow making up my mind in getting them as they were sold out quickly.
Hopefully someone will be able to tell me if they are compatible with SA cichlids?
