After a few months of canoodling, my severums have spawned! Male ("Barney") is a red spot gold. Female ("Honey") is a regular gold. So far they seem happy just to keep other fish away, haven't gone berserk or anything yet.

Happy couple

Congrats on the spawn!

So long as the other fish in the tank heed their warnings to stay away, they should stay relatively calm. The problems really start when someone wants to taste their eggs or wigglers or fry and won't stay at the other end of the tank.

Thanks, folks! I'll keep this thread updated as things progress...

Congrats!!!

Thats neat!

Sooo, that didn't last long...

About two days after the spawn, woke up and found the eggs gone. Didn't see it happen, so I'm not sure who the culprit is. Suspects are: red rainbowfish, upside-down cats, .... maybe the sevs?? Do they ever eat their own eggs?

Spawn #2

Found a 2nd spawn in their new tank. Not sure how long the eggs will last, though, since they're sharing the tank with silver dollars, loaches and a bushy nose...but still cool to see them together trying to make it work!

Don't be surprised if you notice the sevs eating the eggs. New parents of most fish eat spawn for the first few tries. My angels just managed not to eat some, and it was their 7th spawn.
