but no filter and she has one guppy in it, im going there this weekend so ill be giving her my filter and cycled material.... wow.. she already has 1 guppy in it.. i told her to reseach but she said she has me so yeah ill be helping her, she said she wants either sea horses or puffers... told her no to both and that well go to the petstore and look at the fish and see what her and her husband like. so anything i should do or tell?? and any good fish recomandation for a 10 gallon? ( after its cycled that is )
 
Sounds like she may have to learn for herself. All you can do is encourage research, but you can't make someone listen. There aren't even any freshwater seahorses, so any media you would give her wouldn't help if she decides to put saltwater fish in the tank. Only puffers that would work are dwarf pea puffers - which are a good option, and very cute. Might want to try to persuade her that way, although the guppy isn't a compatible tank mate.
 
well were gunna go to the lfs this weekend. see what she likes. ugh i may have to fix up one of my 20 longs for her lol ( its a drilled tank so have to block the drilled part ) but ill help her as much as i can.
 
If it were me, I would just do something simple like this............

1 DG
6-8 rasboras/tetras
4-6 pygmy cories

Or she can get dwarf pea puffers, which I like a lot too.
 
knowing her, she prolly wont do weekly waterchange, and im to far away. so i just want to help her stock LIGHTLY so would 3 dwarf peas puffer work alone with no other fish?
 
Id stay away from puffers altogether, do something relatively easy and hardy such as guppies. Not saying the puffers are difficult, but if she isnt going to do regular maintenance then do something easy. Is she going to be able to keep a population of snails to feed them?

They are much easier then people often think. They seem difficult because they tend to ignore anything that isn't frozen or live (snails arn't an absolute requirement but still very good for them) and they are a bit aggressive. The aggression issue can easily be solved with plants since their size makes breaking up line-of-sight rather easy. But unless she is willing to maintain a thickly planted tank (doesn't need to be heavy but must break line-of-sight) there are much easier fish to keep for a casual tank owner.
 
shes already got one guppy... but the tank isnt filterd and she told me the tank stinks.... i told her she needs to do daily water change tell i get there or go get a filter AS SOON AS POSS... she just got it yesterday and got it set up lastnight and got the fish either lastnight or today... had 3 but two died she said.. so ill be seeding some stuff and puting it in her tank... i have 4 big fake plants ill most likly give her to. ill show her how to do water changes it... hmm and thanks for the help so far.
 
I agree with everybody else on getting easy hardy fish if she isn't going to be doing regular maintenance like water changes, etc. I would get guppies, platys, or danios.
