We regret to inform you that your snail has moved on to the bridge.
Empty snail shells are not evidence of molting. They are evidence that your gastropod has passed on and that his body has been recycled.

We offer our sincere condolences.

I'm sorry to report there's no such thing as snail molting. If the shell is empty, the snail is dead. Check to be sure the snail hasn't retreated farther than normal into the shell. If it's an apple or mystery snail, it will have an operculum (like a door) it uses to close off the shell and protect itself inside. If you look into the shell and see the operculum, then the snail is still in there. If, on the other hand, the shell smells like a seafood restaurant's dumpster, he's probably dead.

GARR!! the "trap door" was on the other side of the tank. and i was like hrmmm he must be dead so when i scooped out his remains i realised he wasnt in there.. so obviously hes moved on.. =(

so sorry to hear :(

How old was he?

Just curious, how old(or big)is your african clawed frog? I'm just curious because it seems he must be pretty small or all of your other fish would be gone or highly harassed. Nothing else alive gets past any of my frogs, they are voracious! I've even had one of my bigger ones eat a smaller one that I thought there was no way in heck it would fit in her mouth! LOL!
