I have tried two different batches of snail jello, following the first recipe in the sticky; they will take a look at it, perhaps a sniff &/or a nibble and then crawl away! I have had to pull all the pieces out the next morning......My snail population consists of Ramshorns, MTS & Nerites; any suggestions? :help:

Don't feel bad, my snails didn't like it either. My molly and platy fry did though.

did you try adding garlic? Snails usually love garlic.

My snails loved my snail jello, but they dont live long. :-(

How much are you putting in? What else are you feeding the tank? How many times have you tried the jello?

Sometimes they just need to recognize a new food as new food. I feed them every other day or so. I also use about a half postage stamp size for a handful of large brigs. The smaller snails may not need to eat as much as you are feeding, or may be feeding on algae, biofilm, leftover foods etc and so are just plain not hungry. My nerites rarely eat the jello, unless the algae and biofilm are "depleted". What type baby food are you using? Another thing you could try is to add a few drops of honey to the recipe, but I think you probably need to try adding lesser amounts of what you have made a little less frequently. Give them a chance to recognize it as food :)

Maybe they just know whats good for them huh??

:silly: I was expecting something like this from you, but I am surpirsed it took you so long!

The snails are in my community & shrimp tanks so they are eating whatever they catch on the bottom in addition to algae/biofilm. I tried garden veg. and mixed veg. baby foods with tetras flakes or freeze dried bloodworms added. My little corys nibbled at it a bit and the betta was actually guarding it/laying on it for a while! (he's wierd)
I will wait a few days and try a very little piece again. I was really hoping they would devour it as they need to calcium supplements due to my low ph. thanks for the input. :) I will keep you posted after my next attempt.

Couldn't you address the low pH problem by adding crushed oyster shells or crushed corals in your filter? You could use marble chips as well or plaster of Paris blocks to do the job. Calcium enriched foods are ingested and can fix the shells by adding layers to it but the pH and hardness levels can prevent shell erosion.

I never had problems with my snails eating snail jello. I just add a tablespoon of honey on my recipe.:)
