Well I picked up 3 Corys, but only one survived the trip to my tank...sad, but my tank decided to suddenly re-cycle on me and the Corys couldn't tank it

But here s/he is...

Now for the question...That colorless area near the tail...been like that since I got him, and wondering if it's anything to worry about. Other then being really REALLY shy (it's taken this long to get him to sit still and up front for a good photo), he seems to act normal...I've seen him scavenging the gravel in typical Cory fashion at least once a day.

It's a bit hard to see, but it just looks like a little physical injury. Watch it like you would any other physical injury. So long as it doesn't start turning unhealthy colors, it's fine. It may or may not grow back to what it was. There really isn't a way to tell for sure.

And ... he is going to be shy without any buddies. As soon as the tank stabilizes, I suggest adding one or two more of these guys at a time until you have at least four. They'll be happier and you'll enjoy their behavior more if you can get at least 6 of them going. Even better if there is room for 8 lol.

But, since your cycle seem to be in the just getting stablilized stages, I probably wouldn't try to add more than one or two more at one time or you'll just run into the same problem you had before.

I think it was the parasite meds I added right before I added these guys...had some neons dying, appeared to be NTD and was trying to prevent it from spreading...the meds weren't supposed to affect Bacteria (and it said it was bio-cycle safe on the packaging) but that's all I can conclude happened...cause went from perfectly cycled (saw the ammonia and nitrite spike, then reduce to 0 and nitrates raising) to what appeared to be a brand new tank (no nitrate changes with an ammonia spike) overnight...

Lots of water changes have kept the Ammonia levels from getting too dangerous, and I decided to give SafeStart a shot...just watching, testing, and keeping the levels from getting too high till the bacteria replenish themselves.

I'm planning on giving the Cory a few friends after the tank re-cycles...though I'm thinking about getting a couple Bronze Corys instead of the Emerald Green ones...in my experience Bronze Corys are a lot more bold and friendly then the 3 of these were before the 2 didn't make it.

Yea, the Bronze Corys are really active guys. I've never had the green to compare them too, but I loved the bronze guys I had.

And yea, it sounds like you boggled your biofilter a bit. The good news is that normally if you do that, it bounces back faster than if you were starting from scratch. Sounds like you know what to do, so I won't go on about that lol.
