My spotted gar died suddenly

Not at all.

What is weird is his change in behavior was sudden- from late Sunday to today when he died sometime now that I think about it.

He ate like a pig on Friday and was fine Saturday.

He had some white stuff hanging down from under his mouth near his gills now that I remember. I tried to look at it but when I took him out of the water I couldn't see it again. I think it just might of been where he torn his skin??

Didn't look like any fungus.

Have you gravel vac'd? I would in order to lower ammonia and stir up gravel to check for any worms or whatever you thought you saw....also, keep an eye on the other fishs behaivoir for the next couple days and try to test every other day\every day if you can.
