As for livestock I have a few rosy reds in there to eat the mosquito larva. It isn't very deep except for the one end that is about 5' wide and a little over 3' deep in the center. Most of it is from 3" to 12" deep.
I put small fish in so they wouldn't eat any frog or toad spawn that may happen.
I was suprised to find that even though it is mostly shaded the water can get pretty warm on the hottest summer days.
I have left it running for the winter but am woried that it may ice dam and freeze my pump.
My husband says it won't. What do you all think?
I'm in central Indiana. It can get pretty cold here but it doesn't stay completly frozen for long periods.
Holy cow, how beautiful! I'm not sure about the pump freezing, but if you have constantly moving water that shouldn't be a problem, unless it gets extremely cold for a long period of time. (which you said it didn't)
