My tank after a party...

You might want to take the sick gourami out of the tank and put it in a hospital tank so he can rest. Use clean water for the hospital tank and let it degass for a few hours. Make sure the temperatures match and acclimate him to that tank. Give him a plastic plant or something to feel safe with. No substrate though.

Yeah, he's already agreed to pay for any damages.
He even said "****, I hope they aren't some $2000 fish."
I'm not mad, he was just drunk..

The sick Gourami.. yea, that's your two thousand dollar fish, tell your friend that they somehow make freshwater pearls and it was part of a mated pair that did so.. yea yea.. :) that will work.

It is unfortunate though that it had to happen I don't know if I would just be plain freaked out or furious or both.. but yes.. as someone else said.. I think I would have to dish out a beating, maybe goto the store buy a fish in the meat dept. Bring it home and beat this person soundly with it.

ewwww....... I had someone add some alcohol to a tank when I was... well, let's say back in the day. It wasn't pretty and wound up costing every fish in the tank. Nothing survived, not even the pleco. I never did find out who did it either.....

Sorry about your situation. It is obvious that your friends don't respect you or your hobby, let alone the fact that these are living creatures. Time for some new friends. I would be willing to bet that it wasn't anyone who keeps fish themselves.

Stop lecturing the guy about his friends....he didnt come here for that. Help him with the situation at hand....non of you are in any position to make judgment calls about him or his friends.

Puting aside any controversial conversation about your friend, meka sure the oil is readily removed. remember gouramies are anabantids (¿?) and need to reach the durface to breath. A layer of oil will prevent them to reach the surface and might suffocate.

Make sure your water surface is agitated enough to brack any oil layer that might form on top. You can use paper towel to remove the visible oil.

Trashing on the idiot that did this is not only appropriate it is right. If someone invited to your home nailed your cat to your front door as a joke would you not suggest that person behaved inappropriately and should be punished and/or excoriated from your group of future houseguests? ...Wake Up!

I'm willing to bet this wasn't a person that is usually in their close circle of friends, as such person would know not to be such a careless ****wad, and would know that said poster cares about their fish. That person would never be welcome in my house again (and I would file a police report that the person vandalized my home if doing so wouldn't cause strife among people I knew).

That being said, good luck with your fish... I know oils can cause respiratory problems in fish. If it was my tank I would be doing water changes as much as possible.

invite him over again and fix him a drink w/ the fish water! :soda:
gravel vaccum water

Why sould he waste his precious aquarium water? Toilet water will work as good and won't affect fishies.
