my tank cracked, help!

well so far the prices have been from $178-$205 for the glass. and none of the places will repair it. so what kind of silicone should i use on it? i really wish i could find a place that would just fix it. anyone know of any?

you should be able to repair it yourself.

you'll have a tough time finding someone to repair it because of the liability.

you will need to remove the tank frame then the glass should come apart fairly easy.

I figured the glass would be fairly pricey. as it is a thick large piece.

you can get tubes of aquarium silicone from specialty LFS or online at al's

get the type that is in the caulking tube and fits in a caulking gun.

well a guy is coming monday to see if he can do it, since its so big. he was the only person i could find after calling about 20 different places. the glass is 3/8" and 72x23 so yeah it is expensive glass. i just hope the place can fix it. i wanna start cycling my water soon :(

For that kind of money I would look into getting a new tank. With the cost of glass and silicone and the time it's gonna take you to do the repair. It would be easier/cheaper to just buy a new one.

A new 125 is probably in the neighborhood of 500-600 dollars so its defineately a better deal to fix it your self.
I just called my LFS and a 125 with single strip light and glass tops is $249.99. Maybe thay are cheaper than most, but I would feel safer to spend 250 on a new tank then spending 200 on a piece of glass and DIY a 125gal. If the silicone job didn't hold a 125gal would ruin your entire room.

thakns for the input everyone. yeah my friend is paying for it. if he wasnt so close id of hit him in the face. not to sound "***" but he is more important than the fish tank so it will get handled. the worst part about this is the waiting part now. i was patient for a month researching, and finally got it, and now i have to wait for it to get fixed. then some more waiting for cycling.... :( :( oh well. thanks again everyone.

are you located near Cincinnati or Columbus??
Glasscages is doing delivery only to those areas 12-08,12-09
120-125 run around $250 plus a small delivery charge. maybe worth checking into.

you could email them to get more details.

Just called my local glass company and I can get 3/8 4 x 8 sheet for $125. I would cut it myself here but I have done this before you would wont them to do this for you. By the way look into getting black glass (not tinted but the glass is died while melted) this gives it a need effect.
