My tank looks awful.

I think a few steps could really improve the looks. A background is a great suggestion.

I would put the sponge filter on the end of the filter input hide it with the plants. I think the terra cotta pot is a good idea for the kribs. You could hide it behind some other rocks if you don't like the looks.

Your tank is not that bad, don't worry about it.

I do have to say though, is it your tank, or hers? Do you take care of it, or does she? It sounds to me line you are answering yourself for both of those questions, so you decide what goes in it, not her. If she makes a big deal about you getting fish she wants, suggest that she gets her own tank.

Nah, she didn't make a big deal of it, she's not that type of person, she just had a Sudden Onset Fish Craving (for angelfish, in this case; I sometimes have them for various barbs, catfish and cichlids myself) that the kribs cured.

Hell, I showed her Nolapete's 4300g and said "when we buy a house, I'm doing this, but I think it needs to be bigger." Her response was "Can I help?" :D

Believe me, if she was actually uptight about that kind of thing, I would tell her to get her own tank (actually, if she was that uptight she wouldn't stick around long enough to set up her own tank... :lol2:).

Ed: Hopefully I didn't make her sound like some kind of uptight whiny demonic (censored) *chuckle* I actually found the whole "ooh, angelfish!" thing rather funny, though I do wish the wild type was more popular.

You can also do some research on the product Flourish Excel.
It helps to stimulate plant growth through a natural carbon source
and aids in algae reduction!
Oh, your tanks looks fine to me too!
Taller plants towards the back may help.

I think it looks nice. The fake plants actually look good for fake plants. For a cheap background, I use poster board, which isn't shiny and is real cheap. I just cut it to fit.

You just need a tall, branched piece of driftwood in there along with some Vals (fake or real).
