I was using cat litter topped with sand, and jobe's sticks interspersed throughout. Apparently I used too many sticks for the plant load, causing an unkillable greenwater bloom. I broke it down and swapped substrate, and decided it was time to go with some sort of aquascaping theme. I present, the Red Rock Garden:
My Java Moss "river" bordering between the garden and the forest to the right.
And a closeup of my nymphaea stellata that I just picked up.
I went back to strictly inert gravel as substrate (with a smidge of my leftover cat litter, barely 1/8" that I couldn't scoop out). I have some dwarf haigrass that hopefully will fill in as a lawn. The rotala rotundifolia is going to eventually be coming out in favor of some red ludwigia perhaps in one of the spots, and some sunset hygro in another.
