hi guys ,
first off thanks for reading my post , i have a 29 gal tank i just started to get going 3 days ago i put the blue rocks that u put in the bottom of the tank and a couple of fake plants in there and i have a aquaview50 filter , now my problem is my well water, it looked good for the first day and half and now this morning i noticed my water looks kinda yellowish and greenish, dont look right, i added start right, at the beginning and the salesman said to add cycle, so i added that a day later, i guess to get the bacterial started is what he said,, i did a test on my water and both from my faucet and tank my my reading are

nitrate=0
nitrite=o
hardness=0 very soft
alkalinity=300
ph=8.4

as u see my alk and ph are way off, im so confused i get told somthing diff at every pet store i go to , some say the fish will adapt and others say to get ph minus , some said my water color was from my well , or the iron in my water , or from the cycle, be added to quickly, others said it was from the blue rocks i got on the bottom of the tank , anyways what i did was did a 50% water change and just added more start right,thinnking it was the cycle that did it-- should i not worry bout the color of water and slowly add some hardy fish, will the right fish adapt to them levels in my tank- thanks so much for taking the time to read this long post and any help or suggestions would be so appreciated thanks

I'm no expert, but i'll tell you what i think.

Does cycle work? Many saw no difference, a few have noticed a difference. I think its just another gimic the LFS wants to make money off of. I don't know what start right is.

I wouldn't adjust the ph. Generally, you shouldn't add stuff to your tank to adjust it. You just spend more money and its just another thing to keep an eye on.

Did you add conditioner to your water? It will help reduce the amounts of heavy metals in your water. If i'm not mistaken well water has more minerals and metals than city water.

The blue rocks... do you mean blue gravel? Did you rinse it our well before you put it in the tank? If not that may be a cause of the colored water.

You could do a fishy cycle, or you could do a fishless cycle. Sounds like you're planning a fishy cycle. Theres a sticky in this forum about the fishless cycle.

anyones welcome to correct me if i'm wrong. HTH
