Well, I just got finished building my hood, it has a 2x55 CF kit in it from ahsupply.com

The hood, I installed a piece of glass to cover and protect the lights,

Testing the lights... and yes the lights in the room are on

And my complete stand, tank, and hood

I'm going to have to make a few modifications to the hood, I need to make the opening for the filter bigger so that I can get the cover off, and I'm going to add a cooling fan and some moonlights.

Also, I don't know if its my imagination or what, but I think my fish are more active with the new lighting... I did it so I can have plants (even though those anacharis grew very well in the old lighting) but if it makes the fish more happy, even better.

Impressive aquarium man! What kind of fish are in it? And what kind of wood is that?

You'll be able to grow just about any plant you want. Happy gardening.
The fish might spook a little when the lights first come on, you might try lighting up one bulb at a time until fully on. For a dawn to daylight effect: I use a 40 watt light strip, that I turn on in the morning, and then the 220 watt pc light flicks on an hour later. The 40 watt is on from 9pm after the pc light goes off untill bedtime, and subdues the room for tv watching at night, and signals the fish that its getting near bedtime.

Fish:
6 tiger barbs
3 zebra danios
3 tetras of some type
1 orange platy
2 algea eaters (type I don't know)

I think I'm going to get rid of the tiger barbs, I like them but they've already bean fin nipping and I plan on getting some angles which I don't think they'll do good together.

Some of the wood I bought off of ebay and a couple pieces my parents found for me on the Mississippi river, they also brought some bigger pieces but all of it was bigger than I wanted. Hopefully when I go up there this weekend we'll go out on the river and I'll find something I like.

Swimfins.. i like the idea of adding another light for dawn and dusk, I'll have to see what I can find for cheap.
