Hi,

I wondered if anybody could offer advice on how to cool water.

The tank I have lives in my loft room and sometimes during the day the temperature of the water can hit 86!! (79 Is about the corect temperature) I really need an idea of cooling the water and keeping it at a steady temperature. I try switching the heater off but it does absolutely nothing!!

I don't want to spend £££'s on a Marine Water Cooler as the tank is only a cheap 15 gallon, I really can't afford to go down that route.

Any help much appreciated....

Thank-you

Dan

Insulation works both ways. Wrap the tank in something when it's cool and see if that helps. Even if you wrap it on three sides (so you can see in the front) it should help.

All are good ideas, just make sure NOT to go the classic "block of ice" method! This hardly never works, the ice melts way too quickly, and you are left with extreme fluctuations. By that I mean you'll have uneven pockets where the temperature could be + or - 5 degrees. :o

Hi!!

Cheers for the help, much appreciated.

I have managed to get hold of a couple of 80mm PC Cooling fans, Linked up to a computer Power Supply, And mounted on the lid should provide enough cooling for the water.

I am going to get this sorted ASAP, As I have already lost a Platy
(Which was in the tank happy the night before, by the next day, He'd gone!! My nitrite levels are fantastic, so I assume His entire body was ate and none of him is rotting away in my tank, filter etc)

Thank-you for the help everyone,

Dan

PS: I can't really move the tank into a darker corner, becuase the tank is in the loft, The heat is spread over the room, Even with the loft window fully open, and the curtains closed to stop the sunlight entering.
