Not that I would... but, could I pee into my tank to do a fishless cycle?

Is there a sufficient concentration of ammonia in a given volume of urine to cycle a tank?

Is there other stuff in urine that would prohibit a cycle from taking place?

If I tested my urine for ammonia, how many ppm would signify an adequate amount for cycling?

Would the concentration depend on what I recently ate/drank?

that would look pretty funny, up on a ladder, peeing into a fish tank. hah... oh wait i guess you could just pee into a bucket and pump it in with a pond pump.
cats pee in fish tanks and it kills the fish. i like urinating outside myself. :sad

If a cat pees in a fish tank why does it kill the fish? Ammonia to high? I have 3 cats, 1 who has a bit of a 'tude. I could see him peeing in the fish tank just because I moved a chair in the wrong spot.:argh (but thats why he is my favorite)

I almost can't believe that there is a webpage that tells you that peeing in a tank to cycle it is a bad idea. Kinda like the signs at fast food restraunts that say coffee is hot.

Well this is bad. I have had 8 beers and now I’m peeing a lot. Hmm one in the tank to speed up my cycle in my 75 gallon tank…
I read the article and I don’t think I be able not to drain the water if I do but….
Ok I’m drunk so I’m done with the posting.

Not a good idea. In all terrestial animals, the waste which is secretted is not ammonia. Ammonia is far too toxic to store within the body of an animal, so that animal converts that ammonia into a less toxic form (ie. urea, uric acid, etc.). Fish don't have this problem, because they don't need to store any waste within their system. As soon as waste is produced, its expelled from the body into the surrounding environment.

No moderators will touch the person that posted that. He is an uber-jokester and they are all in love with him.
Good luck to you. (They'll kick you off for even suggesting it.)

Hey, they modded him fast enough. If it weren't for the quote I'd never have seen that remark.

I've only been here a couple months but it seems like a well-modded board to me.
