My Uromastyx

Very nice Mali,i miss my Egyptian uro.:(

I am thinking about getting a Uro...

I've done some research.

Are they friendly to handle? I am used to handling my adult beardie, who is very sweet.
This guy is a bit squirrelly, I rarely pull him out to hold due to their temp needs. These guys need it hot, so I rarely pull him out to hold.

But they are nice pets as long as you give them the proper requirements. they are work.
As stated this guy was a rescue, he was badly dehydrated and skinny when I got him.

by the way, when I mean a rescue, it is not a store purchase. This guy was dumped at the Humane society and I was called to pick it up.

So I was at a local reptile shop today picking up some crickets and admiring the Mali Uros they just got in. The owner of the store who I know pretty well came over and asked me if I knew anyone trying to get rid of any uromastyx. When I asked him why he said that they are banning the export of them from Africa. So the ones that are here are it. Which also means the prices for uros are going to skyrocket. I tried finding out if this was true so I briefly looked on the web today and I can't find anything stating this. Anyone else heard about this?

try USARK they may know. They are the group that is basically defending reptiles right now.
http://www.usark.org/

Another would be PIJAC
http://www.pijac.org

They would be the best answer but if there is a ban, I haven't heard of it unless its coming from the country of origin.

So is the pet store trying to become a Breeder now?

Thanks for the links Trickster, I'll check them out.

I'm not sure if he's thinking about breeding them or not. He breeds lots of Beardies but mostly he just buys and sells reptiles at his store and at shows.
I'm one of those people that if you are going to keep a reptile species, you might as well take a shot at breeding them. I'm tempted to pick up a pair but there are so many other reptiles on my list first!

I think tegus are the ones that are finicky, as in crabby. Or is it Uros? I've always had a curiosity to Uros.
Very nice looking dude. They are the ones that most resemble dragons to me. Not beardies, but folklore.
