Ok, so Im new to this, and I apologize up front for my lack of knowledge in fish keeping, but Im learning. THis site so far has taught me a lot, and I thank everyone for the great posts. I come here today,to post my first time and share with you my experiance I've had in my fish community in the last month. Hopefully, for my fish sake, to get some knowledge out of you all.

I have a 75gal tank with an assortment of african chiclids , Ive had it for about 6-8 months, and its water conditions is perfect for my buddies. I will post pictures of them all in good time.

About 2 month ago I noticed something odd in my tank. All my fish except 2 were on the left side of the tank constantly. I watched the tank carefully and noticed my big yellow fish (forgive me for not knowing its real name) was being somewhat agreesive and pushing the others fish to the opposite side, except a purple fish that looks to be of the same type of fish. After debating for a few weeks I decided to remove the yellow fish, and put it into its own 10 gal tank. After this, the other fish were happy and started swiming around the tank, but the purple fish was being somewhat agressive towards them now. A week went by, and one day my wife screams " WE HAVE BABIES!!!!" I rushed to look , and sure thing, we had 5 little purple babies hiding on the right side of the tank. The bigger purple fish guarding them like nuts. SO, Im wondering if the yellow fish ( the one I removed) and the purple fish, were mates. No telling, but so far, the babies are around 3 -4 weeks old and doing fine. We have now found a 6th one, after a 50% water change I did last weekend. All the babies are now swiming freely with the big fish. The big fish dont ever care they are around. Phew!!, no light snacks.......I dont thinkg I would of pulled this off if I tried, I feel so lucky.

Now here is the strange part, the purple fish was bright purple with dark black stripes. In the past 2-3 weeks, has slowly turned pale grey, and is now bright yellow with black stripes!!!!!.. Is this odd or what?! It looks very much like the one I removed fromt he tank. Is this normal?

Anyways, The pictures of the fish are here.

The big yellow one I removed from the big tank.

If someone could possible tell me what type fo fish these are that would be cool. Also any pointers to baby keeping.

Looks like Pseudotropheus lombardoi, AKA kenyi. The male is yellow, the female blue, sometimes with a yellow tinge. The babies are a gorgeous bright blue with stripes. It's the first mbuna I ever got, before I knew better.

Here's a lousy image I found on google:
