Mysterious Blob

Hi everyone. My son has a 10 gallon with an African Dwarf Frog and 2 platies in it. I was cleaning it the other day, and noticed a strange, round blob with a sort of ?fungus? surrounding it. It was almost a perfect circle, and was fairly large for a mysterious something in the water. Any ideas what it is? I can't seem to find anything that resembles it on the net. Thanks in advance!

looks to me like it's a piece of food that sank to the bottom of the tank andx sat there for a while. After food sits on the bottom of the tank, it becomes surrounded if you will by that blob... it's fungus. I'll bet ya he feeds pellets to the fish.

Duh

You know you guys, of all the crazy stuff I imagined this could be, it didn't even OCCUR to me that it was a piece of FOOD. DUH! I can't believe this slipped past my brain. lol

THANK YOU for stating the obvious - I feel like a dope. LOL

Thump! But on a more serious note, food being broken down by fungus can negatively impact your fish. It's causing fungus to thrive in your tank, and fish that might later return to the food or stay in close proximity to the fungus can become sick. Lost some very expensive fish with a chunk of food got caught under driftwood and buried. All the fish lost developed mycotoxic shock or some such... so get that old food out before it grows a poison mushroom!

Thank you for bringing this to my/our attention. It IS important, and I'm glad I found it with the gravel vac. I'll definitely be paying closer attention to stuff like that in the future. :)
