Mystery snail breeding/overpopulation

Here is the best website. It is my Bible (along with msjinkzd). Mystery snails are the best. They lay eggs above the water line so all you have to do is freeze the clutches when they are laid. I have 14 now and they are the greatest!

They do lay their clutches above the water line so any unwanted can be removed. I must warn you though that you can get between 100 and 200 babies from every clutch that is hatched. I got into breeding them and had hundreds in a 29, it ended disastrously.

in my experience, they only have over population issues if you do not pull their clutches they lay. You can also keep only one gender of them, but this would most likely mean buying a bunch and rehoming the ones of the gender you didn't want.
And yes, "mystery snails" are a type of apple snail. There are more types of apple snails than just the bridgesii (mystery), but it would be rare for you to come across them by accident in an LPS these days, what with the USDA and all.

so to find the clutches GF would basically need to remove the hood every few days for a quick inspection?

my glass top should be pretty easy to see through, plus with 65W right above it i'd imagine it hard for much to survive because it is a little warmer than normal temps

Ideally you leave the water line dropped down a couple of inches (at least as much as the biggest snails shell diameter) for them to lay the clutches on the glass. If they don't have enough room, they will try to escape.
