Hi everyone, for almost three weeks I’ve been finding my mystery snail upside down every morning and partially hanging out of his shell. When I pull him out, he tries to (quite slowly) squeeze himself back into his shell but it appears he can’t fully. He won’t eat at all. And it appears that maybe his ability to suction isn’t very strong.

I’ve been struggling with him longer than this to eat anything with a source of calcium in it (trust me, I’ve tried everything from veggies, tums, all the way to cuttlebone).

The only change to the tank recently was a month ago I switched the substrate in the established tank to fluorite since my plants were having some issues. 17 days ago I noticed a change in his appetite and he’s been doing the above mentioned behaviour ever since. The betta is doing great with the change and the water parameters are consistent.

Here are the tank parameters (taken two days ago):
20G long tank with a Betta
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: ~5 ppm
pH: 7.2
Temp: 79.6 F

Hes lived in this tank for over six months and he’s about the size of a golf ball. If anyone had any answers as to what I can do to save my little guy, please let me know. Thank you!

6 months of owning him... hes probably getting old so he may be more prone to issues.

What was the old substrate? Maybe add a small dish of sand for him inside the tank, so its something soft for him to recover on. Itll be more comfortable while his foot is hurting. Keep water super clean for him too.
