This isn't even remotely bizarre to me. More like the norm. My hubby thought he would be nice and buy me 2 apple snails and 2 mystry snails for my tank. Thought it was cool at first...until they started eating my fish and plants. I was horrified the first time saw a snail wrapped around a fish. I ended up losing all my plants to these things, and 3 fish before I broke down and got another tank. Did a little research and found out that if they can catch it they will eat it. All of the 'murders' took place at night when the fish were resting.
I would have just let the snail eat the fish and chalk it up to a loss.
justintoxicated, thought I would take the "mystery" out of your snail, he is an ivory apple snail otherwise known as a brig snail. I have one of these as well as a blue apple/brig snail and a giant apple snail all in a 10g with a betta. The betta sleeps at the bottom of the tank everynight and every morning he is still there lol. I think what happened what just a freak accident and I am sorry for the loss of your oto. I think your snail will be just fine. If he was going to die, I think he would have done it by now. Good luck with him and your other fish.
Turn about..
I had(note reference to had) a mystery snail in my tank that has 2 spawning pairs of angels.
yesterday I thought the mystery snail had hidden itself by the intake of my ac filter..upon further investigation..I found the shell empty..killed and consumed by the angels is my guess.
