Hi everyone! Come play a game of name-that-fish!
This fish is about 13-14" long and in a 400+ tank with goldfish and koi. It looks like some sort of carp but it's mouth is more like a regular fish's mouth. not quite sure what it is but it's awesome! Thanks all!

That's a cool looking fish although the cubicles in the background made my shudder. I have no idea what it is though. You might want to toss it into the identify this fish thread in the general freshwater forum. You may stump everyone.

Looks like a type of shad, possibly Alosa sapidissima or Dorosoma petenense.

Looks close but the body is thicker than the pictures of Alosa sapidissima I can find, plus it doesn't have the thread fin of Dorosoma petenense... but all in all closer to D. petenense. The mystery continues

Where did it come from? A fish store, or was it wild-caught?

In the first picture it looks as though there might be an adipose fin (small fin between dorsal and caudal). Can you confirm/deny presence of adipose fin?

It doesn't look like it in the second pic, I was thinking it was lacking the adipose.

Yeah, you're probably right. It looks kinda like a roach (Rutilus rutilus), but I don't think the jaw structure is right. My first thought was that it was a Chalceus macrolepidotus, but the scales are too small.

If it is a shad, it will have plump-looking eyelids. I can't tell if those are present from the pictures.
