Just Another Paramedic
So I have had an aquarium for about 9 months now, and so far, most all of my fish are alive.

I'm embarrassed to say, I have a fish, and have no idea what kind he/she is. Also, recently it developed some red spots on it's tailfin.

Since those spots showed up, I have switched to a larger tank (10 gallon).

Sooo my two questions are:

1. what kind of fish is this and 2. should I be doing something about these spots on the tail fin?

Thanks in advance for y our help!!

it's a blackskirt tetra, and it looks like fin rot. try dosing melafix.

Yes a Black Skirt - they can have shorter fins are a veil type with the longer fin.
Sounds like fin rot and should be addressed.

One other thing--once it is restored to health, some buddies would be nice. Gymnocorymbus ternetzi feels better in groups of its own kind.

All very helpful advice, I will be doing all of these things! Thanks so much for the rapid replies!
