Hey! It's been a while since I posted on here. A lot has happened in the last month fish wise for me so I decided it'd be a good idea to share!

It all started back in early October. I had finally gotten my 55 and 20 set up and began cycling. By the end of November they were still not completely cycled. They finished in the second week of December. But I was not going to order fish during the holidays. Too much risk of the package getting delayed. But after a payment issue with a seller on aquabid I finally got 6 N. anomala at the end of January.

Just settling in here:

After a week they were doing pretty well. There was one REALLY tiny female that I wasn't sure if she'd make it but she is/was still alive. But the two most mature fish seemed to have paired up and my female was starting to look like she was in breeding dress.

So after their next water change I moved them to my 20 long. Then last Wednesday night I noticed the female being aggressive to the male. So I checked. And low and be hold, I had eggs.

It's now Sunday and when I got home this afternoon I found fry! View attachment 155088View attachment 155089
They don't seem to be free swimming yet and most of them are laying on the bottom of the tank. The female is doing an amazing job so far! She's eaten all of the non fertilized eggs and is guarding the fry faithfully. I didnt have to remove the male but i did- which surprised me. I've heard reports of the female killing the male. I think having them in a 30" helps.
His current favorite spot is/was here, where the female didnt bother him:

Fry became freeswimming yesterday. I have no BBS eggs on hand to im attempting to feed powdered flakes. Did a 50% PWc last night too.

45F degrees?!? Thats pretty cold, pretty fast. Or did you mean 4 or 5 fry?

You know once your fish breed it should be easy to do it again. I don't think I'd go through the hassle of caring for so few fry...next time!

Do you know your water condition (kh,gh,ph?). Mine never produced frys so I'm curious. @45 the parents would die i would think. I keep mine around 76. I know my female gold ram died when the power went out and the temp dropped to 70 but i guess rams are more fragile than golden eyes.

So yep, the tank only went down to like 65 (still too cold and i feel bad) but nevertheless they survived.
Tbh is have pretty bad water. gH is 13 (so not awful) but could be better. kH is only a buffer. It doesn't directly affect your water and thus doent affect your fish. My pH on the other hand IS bad. 7.7. Although all my fish seem to do alright. But because of that I only chose fish that can handle a higher pH and gH.
