hey guys, im new to this site. seems like a nice site. and sorry if this has been asked befor, but i dont want to do a search plus im a little spacific.

well i just recently set up my first FOWLR, 55 gallon. and it seems to being going nice. but my mom would really like to have corals becauswe she says they look pretty and all, which they do. so i was thinking of just setting up a mini reef. and i was looking into the nano cubes by jbj. i just recently got a job at my LFS and i was talking to one of my bosses about it. and he said that they are great for mini reefs, but i would also like to get a little anemone and a clown to take to it. he said that the nano couldnt handle an anemone because it doesnt have a skimmer. would it be cool without a skimmer. i see where he is coming from, but ive heard other people here doing it so i was just curious. and if a skimmer is a must can you hhok one up to a nano? i havnt really seen where you could hook it up. also, what size could i use. i was thinking a 6g with a firefish and maybe a blennie for algea. and like 3 or 4 small corals. but in the 6 i wouldnt dare try and stuff an anemone in there unless you guys know of any supper small ones. or i was also thinking of the new 24g. in that id probally have a few more corals the anemone if you guys think its cool, clown, firefish and blennies for algea. and of coarse id have snails in each tank also. oh and i was also wondering if the nite-vu really makes a diffrence for your corals. if it doesnt im also considering the 12g.

so what do you guys think?

sorry for the incredibly long post. :D

I spent a lot of time researching and talking to local reefers about nanos. I ended up with one of these, they are made locally here in Florida and the guy has a great reputation.

He's also making a version with a built in skimmer now. What I like about it is that it's much easier to custom configure than the JBJ style. You can start off with the included light, then move up to more powerful PC or a MH pendant. You can run the filter as is or change the bio balls to LR. Some have hung refugiums on the back. Just about any combinations of pumps/powerheads will fit inside. The guy is very flexible and can provide with what ever you want. He can even custom make them to any size.

As far as anemones in the nano, I'm not even going to try. The two in my larger tank keep me on my toes, I dont want to have to deal with one in my nano! Out of about 12 nano's in my area only one person has a small carpet anemone and a tiny perc clown in his. Everyone else seems to be focused on corals!!

oh ok, but would anemones be cool in the 24 or is it that there just an over all hassel?

and thanks for the site

I sometimes see rose or red bubble tipped anemones in nanos on the other forums. The one I have now in my 36 has almost outgrown the tank!! If you go with one, make sure it's one that stays small!!
