I recently received a 3 gallon Eclipse and was thinking about putting an ADF in there. Instead, I'm thinking fish and shrimp. What are some ideas for fish in an unheated 3 gallon besides White Clouds? I like White Clouds just fine, but I am wondering about options. Here is a photo of the tank:

I have some ideas so small cute fish, u can get cherry barbs, they had a nice hint of color to your tank, and long finned danios look nice, both only get to be about 2inches, and my barbs/danios never bother the 2 bamboo shrimp i have.

I have a 10g with 6zebra danios, 2cheery barbs, 2 bamboo shrimp. Lightly planted

That sounds nice stix. Cherry Barbs and shrimp... hmm. Cherry Barbs like to be in groups right? But for a 3 gallon... is three of the CB's too many I wonder. I have some long finned Danios (Leopard and Zebra) in my 10 gallon too and am very fond of them.

well i had 3 in my 1g, so im sure u can get away with 5-7 in a 3g, are thats a pretty nice group, depending on what shrimp u get, they can match, bamboo shrimp are supposed to be a redish brown color.

Thanks for the feedback Stix! Now I'm thinking about the shrimp.... how much algae do you have to have to keep them healthy?

I add tetra min bottom feeder pellets along with the normal flakes, The fish ussually eat the flakes, so the pellets go to the bottom of the tank. The pellets contain some alge. Thye also slowly break up, once they break up, my bamboo sweep it out of the water. They also craw around the decor (rocks, plants) to clean up after the other fish. I recommend putting the fish in before the shrimp, let some alge from naturally, and let the fish produce some waste. That'll give the shrimp a good amout of debri to clean up. My shrimp have fans instead of claws/pincers, they stand and catch stuff that drifts by with the current, other shrimp actually pick stufff up, better as ur local Pet store

A 3 gallon tank with a 2 inch fish that prefers to school really isn't the best way to go. Also, I'm fairly certain that barbs are normal tropical fish, not coldwater.

If you added a heater dwarf puffers or guppys could live in the tank as long as you kept the numbers low. But schooling fish you want at least 6, and even if you did keep 3, thats a lot of fish for an itty bitty tank.

Thank you for the feedback pbecot. The tank will not have a heater and six is twice as many as I had in mind. Even the White Clouds can get to be 2 inches. Sounds like it's back to the ADF!

What about a couple of ADF's and a snail, or shrimp, or some real plants?
