Nano Tank Ideas

So I was thinking about doing some nano setups around the house. Any Ideas? I want to use live plants if possible. My house is always around 72degrees if that helps with anyones ideas. Anything works. Looking for less than a gallon.

Less than a gallon is tough. You're looking at shrimp and snails. I've seen some small tanks that are essentially a vase with a betta in it and some sort of plant above that supposedly feeds off the nitrates in the betta water. They look really cool...but I don't know how healthy it is for either the fish or the plant.

Check at wal-mart or other similar store for their itty-bitty artsy desk tanks. You might find something small there that will house a fish or two with plants.

Yeah, planted invert, definitely! Or do a theme. I have a "pink" tank- has fake plants- luwigia repens, I think, so they're pink-ish and green, 2 briggs, pink and white, and some red cherry shrimp.

Plants really depend on what you do for lighting, c02, ferts, etc. For a small tank, I'd suggest things like anubias nana, some of the smaller crypts, any kind of moss. You could do stem plants, but that'd be a lot of trimming!

For inverts- I love my briggs. So many colors! Shrimp really depend on your budget- RCS or ghost shrimp are cheap, crystal red shrimp or tiger shrimp, things like that are more expensive. Any shrimp are entertaining!

ETA: Actually, <1 gallon may not be enough for a full-grown brigg- they make a lot of waste! Ramshorms are cool too- lots of colors still. You could have a few of those.

I would be working with low wat lighting and no co2. I can do ferts and the special substrate.

Banana plants would be excellent, as would java moss and wisteria. Wisteria grows like a weed though, but is very forgiving. It can be floating or planted. Moneywort, rotala and ludwigia are also good stem plants. Pygmy chain sword or dwarf hairgrass would make good "ground cover" plants if you want that sort of look.

I'd do common snails - rams, MTS, maybe mystery - and some common shrimp. Cherries or ghost shrimp are probably the easiest to find.
