Nassarius Snail and hermit questions?

i just got an order of Nassarius Snails, 50 to be exact, how many is a good number for a tank? i've read that idealy u should have one snail per gallon or something like that... but what's the recomended amout for these little critters?

also how long dose it take for a hermit, that is in a Nassarius Snail's shell to grow up and be big? as i had two come in the package of the Nassarius Snail...

If you have a 75 you could put all of them in. They are so small and put off very little waste so you can keep more then you could of other snails.

Watching the Nassarius snails is fun. They stay burried until they smell food. I drop some pellet food in my tank and as soon as it hits the bottome, it looks like a scene from the movie "Dawn of the Dead" They all come digging up out of the sand at once and start moving towards the food. Very efficient little critters for a cleaning crew.

They are by far my favorite. I like when they flip over....Thats cool.

I'd suspect that the hermits in the nassarius shells won't get much bigger. You'll want to watch them though--I've seen hermits 'house shop' a snail population to death.

Yeah, you might want to throw some shells in there as that tends to keep the hermits from fighting each other.

how come these hermits wont get much bigger?
and how much damage could a hermit smaller then half of a pinky nail do to snails?
one of the hermits is a brownish color, and the other one has blue and a little red and i think black in him... what kind are they? thanks?

Hermits can pull snails out of the shell--pretty lethal. Some stay much smaller than others.
