Anyone try native midwestern fish like Bluegill,Perch, bass, ect... What did you do? water temp? where did you get fish ?

try looking up fish farms online...also water temps can be lower than most others bc thier cold water fish.
I wouldnt try bass in anything less than a 6 footer, and even then your really pushing it imo

Try someplace like nanfa.org, not a lot of members here seem to keep natives.

ive caught bluegill and kept them with no prob. (started them off being under 2 inches
ive actually kept the bluegill with goldfishs/small butterfly koi/plecos/synos/cories with no prob. and they eventually ate flake and pellets. :)

mrhirsch, where are you located? I'd suggest checking your local rules and regulations before attempting to try any native fish.

bass are good tempered fish as well as perch. bluegill and other sunfish will fight among their own kind. pike will eat whatever is smaller but need places to hide and are timid. smallmouth bass are aggressive and dont do too well from what i hear. not sure about walleye. i know crappie are very nice and are good for a native community. they like the water no higher than 75. pumpkinseed sunfish dont mind the water up to the low 80s, but the others like cooler water. all these fish are notorious fish eaters so beware, anything smaller than they are will disappear.
