I would go for the trout as long as they are not a big breed like some of the rainbows we have in Canada. In Ontario the brook trout stay pretty small (I have caught a 5lb in Alberta though). Definately need a river setup. Cool water, rocks and maybe sand bottom with good water flow through the tank.
 
And the advantage of keeping game fish....you can eat them.
