Natural Snail control in my Shrimp tanks

Took about a week and all were alive and well.

The dormant phase does not last very long, say a few days. I liken it to the obligatory nap, after a Thanksgiving meal.

I love the way those snails look would like to get some later on for that reason only... but I couldn't bear to watch them attack and eat other snails.

Maybe they could be kept together in a separate tank with no other (known) snails around? Do they only attack other species or would they eat each other?

Are they only meat-eaters?

they will eat other food but there main diet is snails.

They sell frozen snail meat in some asians markets, so I hear. I wonder if these snails would eat them. I believe Martin Thoene @ loaches.com has used it in homemade loach food.

Well 2 of mine are now dormant as was mentioned and another has ahold of a medium sized Trumpet Snail...

Hey Bill,
You were one of his other shipments then! I ordered some from him but they all took 11 days to arrive, and all three were goners by then.

If you plan to order these from overseas, definitely pay the extra for REGISTERED mail. It is much quicker and I believe you get a tracking number as well.

Fortunately, I found a local university researcher who will be selling me 8 of these guys. They should be arriving this week!

Are these snails legal to import? Do they get quarantined or does it just look like a regular package so it just goes through customs? I'd love to order some, but at the same time, it needs to be legal because it would be really embarrassing to have the Feds show up on my doorstep.
