Hello everyone. I'm about to switch from 1/2 reverse osmosis water & 1/2 tap water to all tap water. My tap water is initially 8.5 out of the tap, but in about 5-8 days it drops to 7.2. Is there anything I can do to naturally drop the ph faster? I'm using 5 gallon jugs to hold the water. I'm thinking of buying a 10 gallon tank or bucket and running a filter to circulate the water. Does this help the ph stabalize to around 6.6-7.7 (or around that)? Also, how would I use peat moss to lower the waters ph BEFORE I added it to the tank?? Thanks for any ideas!

I'm confused--you're saying that the pH drops that much after sitting out fro 5 days? Have you tried agitation? Also--what are the other parameters? KH, GH, any treatments used, either in your house or from the water utility?

Peat can be used to filter the water prior to use--you'd need a pump to move the water, and a container to hold it.

Don't try doing water mods to alter the pH of the water without knowing first what the KH of the water is, both fresh from the tap and after the pH has leveled out. It sounds as though your utility is adding short-lived buffers to support high pH briefly for protection from pipe corrosion (likely phosphates). The fact the the water drops to near neutral in a few days implies that the KH is not high, and further alkalinity reduction could be risky.
