Need a good webhost

Yeah, I wouldnt recomend it if your trying to host mutliple sites or make some kinda business out of it. But for personal use even 384k upload is fine for pictures and text. I am fortunate to have 'WOW!' cable here and I typicaly get a bit over 6M down and 650k up. Supposibly they are now offering 1M up but havent checked into to it yet though. I occasionally download some of my largest files (movie clips) at work just to see, and I usually get over 80k /sec continous and download movies in under 30 sec that are a few megs. My friend even runs a pretty big site of his dsl connection thats usually in the 250k upload range, but I can notice that large pics take just a couple seconds to load. His site is mostly for his friends and family though, wich are primarly on dial-up.

Seriously, I've been in computers a long time and there's not many hosting facilities I'd recommend. Without getting into a long technical discusson, here are the few service providers that I can recommend:

www.lunarpages.com
www.aplus.net
www.1one1.com

There are cheaper alternatives, but expect slowdowns and/or outages. One provider we tried with my son's website advertised "unlimited bandwidth." They shut down his site after two hours for "abusing" their server. Our abuse was to have too many people visiting the site. He now has two dedicated servers with a third coming online soon with over 30,000 unique visitors a day.
 
I was looking at 1one1 yesterday and that seemed to look like a good place, but comparing aplus and 1one1, I'm thinking aplus looks to be what I need more so than the other. Maybe there's no real difference but to me, I think what I need is there more than 1one1.... anyhoot... thanks guys for all your help...
 
I hope 1one1.com doesnt require you to have '1one1' in your url... that might be difficult when telling someone your url. LOL. "Just go to www dot the number one, the word one, the number one..." ?!?


DirkW, wow thats a lot, over 30,000 unique visitors per day. Must be some major business oriented site? Thats even alot for a succesful internet business I would think? I thought I was doing pretty good with my hobby site getting between 50-100 visitors per day (although webalyzer doesnt distinguish 'unique' visitors so its probably half that). My last month (feb) is 35,000 hits, 3,500 pages, 1300 visits, 1.45GBytes usage.

1and1 is decent from what I've heard. I can't recommend them since I've not used them. I was looking at using their dedicated server option at one point.
