I have a 55 gallon tank with
1- 4 inch silver dollar
4- black skirt tetras

I have had it up and running for about 6 months now and have a little algae problem.. It is not out of control but i need something to tame it a little.. What are some good algae eaters that stay rather small (under 5 inches)

Thanks guys

Snails! best I've ever seen...but they spawn quite a bit and may eat your plants, if you have them. Other options that i've heard are Siamese Algae eaters. I do not recommend Chinese algae eaters or corys....neither of mine do much for the algae, although the CAE did when he was smaller, which I hear is common. I had way too many snails, then my festivae ate them all. Before that, they did a wonderful job of the hairy algae I had all over my tank

I have an Otto for algae clean-up in my tank. They like being in groups, and only grow to 1.5 or 2 inches. He does a good job. :)

I'd suggest a bristlenose catfish. I purchased one for my 25 gallon a couple of weeks ago. I had algae growing on some of the ornaments, specifically a hollow log used as a hiding spot for some of my shy fish. Within a couple of hours this fish cleaned ALL the algae off the log. I was absolutely amazed, considering the bristlenose catfish is just a baby (only 1.5 inches long). These fish are amazing at controlling the algae in a tank. And, I believe they stay under 5 inches.

Bristle nose plecos and Rubber lip plecos do a good job at eating algae. They will get to be a maximum of 5 inches too.

:OT: Hey sandwich....

How are Siamese Algae Eaters? are they ok in none planted tanks???
Yes, SAE's are good. You should supplement their food supply with store bought algae wafers though.
