I have a 120g with 6 baby cichlids (2 jacks, 2 cons, 2 jewels) and would like to have a pleco. I don't care about efficiency for algae control, as I can maintain that myself. What kinds of plecos are hardy enough to stand up to the cichlids when grown other than a plain old common pleco?

No way!
Two Common Plecs would be way too much for that 120gal.
Not only do Commons get anywhere from 14-24"+, but they are often territorial with other Commons. If he wants a med-lrg Plec, he could do Common, Snow King, Sailfin Common or ect... You'd want start with a larger juvenile or even a adult as the Cichlids would quickly outgrow a small juvenile Plec and possibly harass it to death.
