Hi everyone,

It is my first time posting here and I am looking for some advice. I have a 16 gallon bowfront aquarium that has been up and running for over a year. In the past 48 hours I lost 10 out of the 11 fish. I have done nothing unusual in past few weeks other than add one glo-fish tetra. I do not have a quarantine tank. The LFS believes it is a fungal infection based on a few pictures I showed and sent me home with a fungal treatment. The only fish that remains is a danio that shows absolutely no signs of illness. (a few of the fish displayed what appeared to be small areas of ich or a kind of white film on their fins before they died) What really amazes me is how all of them were seemingly healthy 72 hours ago. There have been no chemicals introduced into the tank or dramatic temperature changes.

My most recent tests show:
PH 7.6
Ammonia 0 ppm
Nitrite 0 ppm
Nitrates 20-40 ppm

All were obtained with API Master Kit

Last night I added the appropriate amount of fungal treatment. My question is now do continue with the fungal treatment or is there such a large amount of fungus living in the tank do I start over, clean everything and go through the whole cycling process again. I have always been diligent with vacuuming gravel and doing partial water changes. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

what temp is your tank set at ? I personally would tear it down sanitize the whole thing and start over because I wouldn't want to risk putting more fish into that situation

Welcome to AC, wish it was on better terms.

I'm sure there will be more people with more experience with this stuff chime in soon

I have kept it at a consistent 78-80 f since it was first set up. Thanks for the reply

my main concern would be if they were sick when you bought them that you may not want to buy from that store again, especially if you do not have a quarantine tank I would be very careful about where you buy your fish

The strange thing is some of the fish that died I have had for over 2 years and others I have had for only a few months. I had never had a problem with any of the fish I have purchased there. Would you continue with the fungal treatment and start restocking slowly over next few weeks or start from scratch and sanitize everything ? Thanks

did you make sure to remove any carbon inserts from your filter before adding the medicine ? if there is still activated carbon in there it will trap the meds and they wont do any good

how many fish are still in there ?
