u know what, i think that is a good deal u got .

pjs pet store (which i absolutely abhor bcoz of where they get their puppies from...) was selling the same thing minus the heater. oh they were throwing in the stand too but anything with a cabinet be a stand? im gonna check ikea since im on a budget...

what have you stocked your 20g with?

thanks.

I'd be careful what you choose for a stand. I remember looking into what Ikea had, and found nothing that was the right combination of height and strength to properly hold a tank full of water. I ended up getting the basic Stingray stand from Big Al's for about $80.00. But you can get a basic metal stand for a lot less than that. PetsMart usually has them and sometimes Walmart does too (and so does Big Al's). Also worth checking Walmart for tanks and/or kits. They had some good prices on 29 gal kits last I checked. :)

I have 2 platies (used to have 3), 1 german blue ram (used to have 2), 3 zebra snails and 2 amano shrimp. I plan on replacing the ram I lost and adding 3 panda cories as well. 1 zebra snail will be going back into my 10 gal.

You say you're from Canada-- are you in the Toronto-area, by any chance? If you are, I just discovered a small fish store in Market Village, which is located immediately behind Pacific Mall at Kennedy Rd. and Steeles Ave.. I was in there earlier this week, and they were having a really good sale on a 20g starter kit. IIRC, it came with the tank, hood, lights, filter, heater and possibly some decor stuff for $99. I don't remember the exact models, but all of the equipment in the package came from reputable name brands. My only caution is that I suspect the tanks may have been used as display models in the store, so I dunno, you might wanna give them a good cleaning with some vinegar before using it. Otherwise, it seemed like an awesome deal. I would have bought one myself if I had the room for it at home. >_<

One thing to keep in mind. If you're wanting to have live plants, then be clear on the type of lighting a kit comes with. A kit with incandescent lighting will be cheaper than one with fluorescent (which is needed for plants.) Plus, even a kit with fluorescent lighting may not have enough wpg for the plants you choose. The lights that came with my 20 gal only give me 0.5 wpg of lighting, so I've gone with silk plants. A kit can be an easy way to purchase, but can end up being more expensive in the long run if you're upgrading the components. :)

Yes, do call ahead before going. I'm not too sure when the sale ends exactly. >_o

You can find their number on this page: http://www.marketvillage.net/lucky2.html
