Need advice for a salt water dip

I think a safer scenario for your case would be "When it rains, it floods"

that's a horrible string of luck...I feel bad for you
As soon as something goes right I'd suggest buying a lottery ticket ASAP
(odds have to balance out some time right?)

How are the fish doing otherwise?

Mine absolutely love the new cave I got for them...it was almost 50 bucks but it's huge and has 7 holes for them to chase eachother around

Big guy has spread the ich all over him now...it's about 10 spots that I can visually see...

but hopefully it gets worse before it gets better...so I'm anticipating maybe 2 more days to get rid of the troublesome spots...then I'll keep up the salt consistency for 6 weeks just to be safe (those spots stayed on the big guy without dropping off for about 5 weeks)

So i figure after the last visible spot dissapears...6 more weeks at that consistency just to be safe

My plants are absolutely thrashed from the salt treatment...but it's fine I have a clean healthy backup stock constantly growing with the guppies and snails

when the treatment is done I'll just dump some back in the tank

could this be the end of "Super Ich"? *crosses fingers and toes*

My fingers and toes are crossed, too. :)

I have read thru this posting and think I had the same stubborn ick. This is the first I have heard of a resistant strain of ick though and this is not a comfortable feeling at all. I usually treat ick outbreaks by raising up the temp and dosing with salt. But the ick just went on forever and just would not go totally away. To cut a long story short--I have whiptails and loaches in the tank so I refused to use anything except salt and the increased temps but I was so tired and frustrated that I did try Jungle Ick Guard II for scaleless fish as someone here recommended it to me. It worked great and I didn't lose any of my loaches/whiptails. I will use this product again if I get another outbreak that is not easy to eliminate. I believe that I did lose a neon or someother fish with the treatment but I am not so sure as it was quite a while ago.

Very good to know about your success with that product. How long did it take to do the job?

well I know what I'm trying when the salt fails -_-

I lost all 4 cory's on saturday...when I bumped the salt dosage from 1tsp per gallon to 2tsp per gallon

all the cory's were dead by the next morning...my wife was so sad

first casualty throughout this ordeal so I guess I shouldn't be too upset...but I know the cory's didn't pass easily...it must've been horrible for them

Oh, Taylor, I'm so very sorry for your loss. :(

I know it hurts, but please know that you have done everything you could for them. You have worked so long and hard trying to get them through this.

It would be wonderful if every fishkeeper out there in the world of aquaria cared as much and worked as hard as you did.

Please know how sorry I am for your loss. :tombstone:

Thanks Mel,
I just can't help but feel responsible...If I hadn't added that consistency of salt and just kept it at 1tsp per gallon

I know for a fact the corys would still be there...cleaning and playing with the loaches

I know I should feel good about how hard I've worked to try to put an end to this nonsense...but at the same time I do want to kick myself for adding that extra dose of salt

I shouldn't have let my frustration with this incident take the best of me...I was kind of at the point where I wanted to just get rid of it...period
not thinking or taking into consideration the other tank mates

then again there is still my love for the loaches above all else (except fam of course lol) and also keeping my $40 loach alive vs. 4 $1.99 corys

I know it's cold to say that...but in my situation with limited tank space and not wanting to move the corys to the guppy tank on the chance that the ich would spread

I was kind of stuck I guess

thank you again Mel

How's your tank doing btw? Ich all gone now?
