Need advice for my new 5g

Ok, now I know (the box under the tree is a dead giveaway) Santa is bringing me a 5g hex for my office. It will fit perfectly on the corner of my L shaped desk.


I plan on planting it lightly (maybe two plants....so as not to make it too hard to see the fish) and stocking with maybe a male beta, african dwarf frog, and some cherry shrimp.

What do you think? And who to add first....and so on.

Thanks in advance for the advice....or any good suggestions for fish that will thrive in this environment.

For a hex I would do either the shrimp or frog, not both due to a small footprint. So either of those and a betta will be great.

For a hex, I'd skip any sort of tetra & agree w/ betta or frog, maybe an endlers or ft guppy... for other suggestions (lighting), see my sig. as I'm running a 5g mini-bow.

you might want to consider a specimine tank, and a betta or honey gourami will do fine.

if you want multiple fish, endler's livebearers or dwarf livebearers are the way to go

In my 5G hex, I have a male betta and a couple of snails. I really like that setup.

Thank you. Now....what are Endler's Livebearers and Dwarf Livebearers? I've looked for pics of them. Do you have any?

both are suitable for a 5G hex tank and you'll be able to have at least 3 or 4 of them.

if your going the way of betta, shrimps or snails make good tankmates (depending on your bettas personality, he may or may not eat the shrimps).
