need advice new cicihlid owner

Rip my wolffish lobo, he jumped out the tank yesterday. I liked him he had great teeth, Im really sad. Wolffish are known for jumping out tanks. But my tank is doing good 0.50 ammonia ph is 7 but i have nitrites at 2tt. My fish dont look stress at all but when start potting plants and dcorate with stones and wood or its not good it would kill them . Would a greenterror be able to have a companion in a 36 40 gal tank

I'm sorry about your wolf fish. Do you have a lid on your tank? Remember, as said earlier..ANY ammonia, or nitrite is deadly to fish, so keep up with the daily water changes. I wouldn't add any other fish to your tank right now until your tank has cycled and you have researched more on the species you are interested in keeping. Good Luck and welcome to the hobby.

A green terror will outgrow the tank. The only fish in that stock list that could be comfortable in that tank would be the firemouth.

Its almost 3 weeks into cycling and lost one fish, wolf fish, tiny space between filter and hood he jumped out of, I do think my flowerhorn is a little stressed his color is dark when I turn on the lights. I dont have anyone who has fish so this is all new and when i speak to workers in petco and petland never the same advice not that its bad but it might be alittle confusing I do believe the water changes helped and cleaning gravel. If anyone knows upper west side in nyc a mom and pop store I would definately start going there if not its alright Im getting pretty good advice from you guys. Saving some money to get a larger tank to start cycling hopefully soon maybe flowerhorn and plecos can have 55 gallon and firemouth and jack dempsy in 36 until i get bigger. I hope Ill find out how beautiful theyll be when fully grown there approx. 3.5 inches now

I would get an 80 gallon for those fish..it's a bit of an off stock in my opinion. Good luck though all the same!

Your tank is OVER STOCKED. If the water quality doesn't get to them, the aggression between each other will.
