I recently lost a few of my ottos, and the swordtails are becoming a hassle with the mess they make and that they dislodge plants. The smaller fish are not a problem at all. I've been thinking that I might want to change a few things. I was wondering about returning the swords and ottos, and maybe getting something different. I'd have to get something to deal with the bottom of the tank region. I was just reading about a kuhli loach and really liked them. Do you guys think they would be a better choice for my tank if I made those changes? Would it lower the bioload? What's your experience with them? I guess I've always wanted something that was eel-like.

khuli loaches are cool looking fish, problem is they are nocturnal and you'll very rarely see them as they like to hide during the day

Fifty five is a reasonable tank so that you have a large choice of fish. You wanted bottomdwellers, right? Most catfishes are bottomdwellers. If you are looking for smaller fishes, a school of corries are cool. Check out the species guide for catfishes to have a more indepth look.
