I recently traded some water sprite clippings for five nerite snails and I'm very excited but I have a couple questions.

1.) One of the snails has a cracked shell, is there anything I can do for him? He's active and busy eating.

2.)Do they require any special care/water perimeters/diet? I was hoping they'd be easy like my malaysian trumpets.

Any advice you could give about them would be helpful. Two of them are looking a little slumpy and I'm kind of worried.

1) Not that I know of... he should be fine though.

2) They need neutral to basic water. Acidic water will cause the shell to erode. They also need somewhat hard water, as they use the aqueous calcium to build and maintain their shells. They also prefer naturally tank occurring food, i.e., algae, rather than algae tabs and such.

I make sure to put algae wafers in for mine so they get enough to eat. They also will eat the the zuchinni I put in for the bottom feeders.

My water is neutral. Is there anything I can give the snails to help with calcium in addition to the water.
