Hello everyone!Icurently have a 90 litr. fresh water aquarium i have an external filtre (fluval205),a heater,a lamp for tropical aquariums and a gravel filter with machine.I want to convert it into a salt water aquarium what excacly i will need and what i can keep i've read the article but i want more information and analizing.I wan to set it up as a reef type salt water aquarium with coralls and living plants.i want to keep the cost low (i'm a univecity stundet)and i'd like ideas on how to set up the aquarium.i was thinking about buying a protein skimmer and proper lightnig and use the rest of my equipment, will this be ok?or i nedd more equipment? What lamps i need and what equipment?pleaz help me because i dont trust the pet shop sellers who just want to make money and they would sell you anything even somethink useless!  :bowing:

Lets see a low budget aquarium. Play sand from home Depo to get a 3-4" DSB, a good quality protien skimmer, Live Rock, Powerheads, and an Ammonia source would cost around $40-50 which is good enough for a FOWL. The lighting involved for a reef is what will really burn a hole in your wallet.

thank for your advice!so i will need sand, live rock,a skimmer which equipment is the powerhead(im not a native speaker)and what DSB means? How much does the lighting
costs(average)?

Use flourecent lights, about 3-4 lengths of the aquarium. With the pumps, you probebly want to turn the water arround about 20 times in one hour. so a few powerheads will do you good. But with all aquarium things, "you get what you pay for". SO for the protein skimmer for instance, you are better off spending the extra 50 bucks to get a GOOD one. Tunze are the best. They go for 220 aud where i live, (perth, wa) Buy some live rock and let it cycle. Go to a marine aquarium shop and they will tell you heaps. Read loads too, books, internet, what-ever. With the flourecent light sticks, buy 1 blue light for every 2 white. You are very limited as to fish in your aquarium, but like 3 will be ok. for instance, 2 clown fish (nemo) maby a fire fish or two. It depends on the ammonia etc, how many fish you can have. But two clown fish would be cool. what dimensions is the aquarium.
