need algae eater 4 agressive cichlids!

ANd since your other pleco already got picked on any new fish you add(including a BN pleco) will most likely get picked on too.Best choice is an algae scrapper and some elbow grease

That is why i said get an algae scraper. SInce you fish picked on your other pleco the probably will pick on a BN pleco also. But BN plecos are usualy recommended as algae eater for african tanks as they are smaller and can hide better then big common plecos. They also have spines to protect them but so did your other pleco and that didn't help him.

If you don't have plants and the algae is on decoration and the glass jsut clean it off.I have a 90g african tank and it gets alga all the time. I jsut scrape it off the glass with a razor and that it. I leave the algae on the rocks of the africans to eat(plus it looks more natural).

no ****, just get one of those magnetic algae scrapers or something. nosense putting in another fish if its just going to die or be miserable... i have one and it works great...

Well, let's do the important things first. The tank is too small for your fish as is!

I would trade the zebra's and get some saulosi's or electric yellows. The best is to go to 100gallon tank size, or at least to 50G.

Either way, I have rubber-lip plecos, max length 5 inches (Petsmart)for 50-150 g tanks.

Petsmart has dwarf plecos which max out at three inches for 20-50 g tanks.

Fora 20g tank, I would get german rams for soft water and dwarf tanganicans for hard tap water. :)

Best of luck,

So you think my tank is too small for my fish? They have been in that tank for a long time. Like a year and a half. They have grown a lot but they seem happy. Why do you think it's too small???

Has a lot to do with the aggression of the fish too.

I could squeeze 10 Oscars into a 30g, but as they grew and their waste production increases, etc, it will become more and more likely they will fight and become sick (from stress and poor water quality).

Most cichlids require some swimming room, many of the semi-aggressives require 3 feet or more tank length for 'prowling'. Any shorter (yours is only 30" long I believe) and they will eventually feel trapped off and could suddenly become aggressive toward their tank mates to 'make room.'

At least this is my understanding.

what kind of africans do you have? im going to guess malawi because they are the most common.

if that is true then they get to be 4+ inches long each. 5 will be a bit crowded in your tank eventually.

please tell us what kind of africans you have.

in my 55 gal i have an albino oscar and 2 plecos (small, like 4 in) ands a 6 in chinese algae eater... Ivory (My oscar) picked on em, cuz they ran, but then she started to leave them alone...I thought plecos were scary at one time and was told the need lots and lots of room... When I got my first tank i got the smallest pleco i could find...she is now over 2 and a half and is still in my 20 gal comunity tank, happy as can be...but the 2 in my 55 gal are getting big...they like to play (seriously...) they will chase one another and then relax and "cuddle" and sleep together...I now love plecos...

I have three red zebras, one male two females. And two yellow tailed violet cichlids one male and one female.

Mtdewlover- Did you look into your violet yellow fish being a Pseudotropheus sp. "Acei"?

5 mbuna wouldnt' be too bad if you had say 5 electric yellows as they are one of the less aggresive africans. The fish you chose can be aggresive especially in a smaller tank such as yours.

Here is a cookie cutter page tha tmight help yo usee what you could possibly have in a 29g http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/cookie_cutter_29g.php
