My boyfriend got these in at his store too, I am assuming that you are somewhere in WA, he thinks that they are LDA 25 pit bull pleco, we got one for our 5 gal hex and he love the green hair algae, he has been sticking his head out of the water to get at it. He is really fun to watch.
They are the same fish... if you look the scientific name for pitbull pleco is Parotocinclus jumbo.
I too am surprised by how active they are....

thats not him, it just dosen't look the same.
I ordered a few from the same wholesaler and took one home with me I wound up with the conclusion it was a pitbull pleco.

We had already figured out what it was back on page 1 .... 
The Parotocinclus Jumbo is the proper name for the pitbull pleco. Your supplier is more than likely African NW. What surprises me is that we can figure it out in under an hour yet they can't and sell them as mystery pleco... Makes me not have a real high regard for African NW.

I find this statement to be untrue I'm not real sure if mine have even spent more than 2 minutes on the bottom They spend 90% of their time on the glass or the Sword plants and they are always in motion....
They have fattened up nicely though since getting into a more natrual tank and are not near as skittish as they were in the shops tanks. Not enough cover in shop tanks is my guess and they will do a # on uneaten food and alage...

Nah I have had mine long enough to know they are paros no doubt about that.... I have looked up just about every reference I can find and called in everyone I know who might have a clue and they all say the same thing paros....
But I was wrong once back in 1973 ... I thought I was wrong but I really wasn't... So there might be a slim and I mean real slim chance I'm wrong.

They're not juvies, they're P. jumbo. You're right Soundguru.
You will occasionally get "contaminants" in with these guys that are more of a chocolate brown base color with gold dots. I used to have a large group of the cute little guys. It's definitely worth shopping through them anytime someone gets them in to get the other species, also. P. jumbo will exhibit an almost schooling behavior in a large enough group, also.

I hope to pick up 6 more of the metallic sheen ones I really like them. I haven't seen the gold dot one but I will keep my eyes open. Since we get all of our fish right now from a local wholesaler chances of seeing something cool is slim. I hope to one day open a shop and do my own ordering from the farms myself...
