Hello all :)

I am attempting to build a solar powerd pond pump, but am having trouble due to budgeting issues. Perhaps someone here has some parts lying around that they aren't using anymore that could help me please?

1. I need a dc to ac power converter.

2. And also a lead acid battery - at least 2A(amps).

Thank you for looking. :)

What you are looking for is an "inverter" not "converter". AC to DC is a converter and DC to AC is an inverter.

Small inverters as well as converters are available quite readily anyplace that sells electronics. You might have better luck posting on "www.freecycle.org" in your area in trying to get one for free. If you need to draw 2amp you will need to get one that is rated for 220watts minimum. The higher its rated for the better off you are. One rated for 300 watts would be a better choice.

Lead acid batteries are based on CCA (Cold cranking amps). That means how fast it will be depleted. I have never seen one at only 2 amps. A motorcycle or lawn tractor battery is about the smallest common battery you will find. If your device draws 2 amps, and you wish to run it for 'x' hours, you will need ( amps x hours) + 30% = max draw available. The 30% represents the start-up that is generated when a device first starts. That percentage can run as high as 50% of the rated running current.

Converting or inverting costs.
For a solar power setup, you want to find a DC pump. Conveniently enough, any auto scrap yard has things that will work. At the small end, windshield washer pumps. At the higher end, water pumps. You can also pick up a used battery there.

do u think they'd have something for an air pump there too?
