Need grass man (no stems / seeds plz)!

Folks,
Your ideas and pics are absolutely wonderful!

I suppose I'm at 2.9 (or so) wpg and I get the impression that's good:)

John (reiverix) what was the hassle with the grass?

I'm not into the 'it takes a long ting thing' as i've been dabbling with it now for god, 5 years?

So suppose I start out with a fast growing strand then mix it up with some slower stuff... What type of strategy should I use (am assuming the slow stuff is worth the wait)?

Also, could my not being able to grow grass be a symptom of the fish I stock?

what's the importance of thinning out?
I think I 'd prefer shag to berber anyway:)

I think the problem John is refering to is the fact that once the grass settles in it spreads out throughout the tank. If that is what you want--like RC's tank where the grass has room to spread out, then it is fine. But if you have stem plants and others then the grass spreading throughout the tank can look weedy and force out other plants. Also once the grass spreads out it can block light from the bottom parts, and those parts can rot, so you eventually have to trim.

How can they force out the other plants? Their roots choke those of the other plants? But in addition, 'other plants' block light from reaching below them so I'd think grass would have a hard time getting close to established plants.

Not really sure what you mean here... Block light to the bottom parts of the grass? Because I imagine as long as some part of a blade of grass is exposed to the light, it will survive and foliage that rots will get sucked up by syphon on a monthly basis.

But also, the grass has to get REALLY thick for that to happen and since blades are relatively so narrow AND because wather circulation keeps the blades 'moving', not sure how this condition can really become an issue.

But then I'm not an expert:)

Question still outstanding... are some fish species just not appreciative of grass or so appreciative that they eat it?
