Hi guys - Is it normal for an Angel fish to have a slight red tinge coloration encompassing the base of one of its pectoral fins? I just bought a quarter sized Blue Angel, and he's obviously growing out nicely to the naked eye, and well fed. But when I got him home I noticed one of his pectoral fins has a light red coloration at the base of it.

I feel like I've seen this before in past Angel fish I've kept and it could possibly be nothing, just part of the fish... but can someone help me out and tell me if this is normal or not? None of the other Angels I bought from the same tank have this.

Otherwise the fish looks healthy and well colored.

Just wondering if I should bring him back to the lfs?

Thanks

I think he is referring to whether the angelfish is healthy not whether he will be happy.

Do you have them in QT, if not I would suggest it since you are worried he might have a infection or injury. Putting him in a bare bottom tank and changing the water often it will help clear it up if there is anything wrong. If after a few weeks he is still acting normal and the coloration hasn't changed maybe it's just his color. Don't know enough about angels to know if this is possible or not but if it looks like a problem clean water and being alone will heal him if it's needed.

is the red seen more where the pec fin comes from the body?

light colored angels will show some red where the fin and body come in contact.

Usually it is just blood flow especially true on hinge points as in the case of pec fins..

Yes, the pinkish color was where the pec fin connected to the body, however, after acclimating fully to the tank, the next morning it was gone. I believe it was just normal coloration/blood flow possibly, I think it was caused by the stress of moving to a new home. Now he is fine, no discoloration and eating and acting very normal.

Thanks for your help though guys!
